Phenolic resin is also called bakelite, also known as bakelite powder. Originally colorless or tawny transparent, market sales often add colorant and red, yellow, black, green, brown, blue and other colors, particles, powder. Resistance to weak acids and bases, decomposition occurs when strong acids, corrosion occurs when strong bases. Insoluble in water, soluble in acetone, alcohol and other organic solvents. Phenol aldehyde or its derivatives obtained by condensation polymerization.

Properties:

The solid phenolic resin is a yellow, transparent, amorphous mass substance, which is reddish because it contains free phenol. The specific gravity of the solid is about 1.7 on average. It is soluble in alcohol, insoluble in water, and stable to water, weak acid and weak base solutions. Resin prepared by condensation polymerization of phenol and formaldehyde under catalyst condition, neutralization and water washing. Because of the choice of catalyst, it can be divided into thermosetting and thermoplastic. Phenolic resin is widely used in anti-corrosion engineering, adhesives, flame-retardant materials, grinding wheel manufacturing and other industries because of its good acid resistance, mechanical properties and heat resistance.  

Liquid phenolic resin is yellow and dark brown liquid, for example, alkaline phenolic resin is mainly used as casting binder.
